I will tell you what the assignment is, and I will explain how to do it.You will pay attention. If you are absent you will come to talk to me to find out what you missed.
You will complete the assignment in a timely manner.Plan on about 2 weeks to complete each assignment. If you finish it in ½ and hour, you are working too fast and probably did not add the level of effort that I am looking for.If you finish in a month, you need to pick up the pace.
My basic philosophy about making art is this:I can lecture you all day about how to use the medium in front of you; but if that were the case, you could just watch Bob Ross on PBS.I prefer to keep my instructions simple, and allow you to experiment with the different media. I want you to dive in and try it out.If you get stuck or frustrated, you need to ask for help.
It is my belief that I should not do your project for you.As such if you have a question, I may show you a technique in a corner of your piece, but I want to touch your project as little as possible.Don’t expect me to do the project for you.
If you need help, I expect you to ask for it.My telepathy is not what it used to be, so we have to do this the old fashioned way- if you have a question, raise your hand and I will assist you in a timely manner.
This is not “CRAFTS”.Therefore, I have no crayons, markers, glitter or pipecleaners. They are not acceptable media for anything beyond 2nd grade.
I will try to discuss your pieces with you as I hand them back.If you feel like you do not get the personal critique from me that you deserve, then you need to talk to me.
Anything left on the drying rack or in a folder will not be graded. It must be put on the table to be graded.
I cannot control the conversations of 45 people.Do not ask me to try.If people are being inappropriate, let me know and I will handle it.However, if the people around you are simply annoying you then bring an ipod.
Your grade is your responsibility, not mine.Work you do not do, or turn in will result in a zero.
Ipods are ok, as long as I can’t hear it.You cannot share with your friends!Cell phones are not ok.I will take them if I see them.
This is an art class and as such, studio time is provided. This does not mean that this class is free time.
13. You are expected to work on any and all assignments as they are given. If you are finished with all your assignments, then and only then, you may work quietly on other homework. If you have nothing to do, I will give you something.Socializing is fine; however, if you do not work in class, you will lose your participation points. 14. If you leave class early, you will be marked absent. If you leave class more than once, not only will you be marked absent, but you will be given detention.Do not ask to leave my class for any reason such as getting food, seeing your counselor, talking to other teachers, etc.Do these tasks on your own time, not mine. 15. If you lose an assignment, you must recreate it or find it.Just because I “saw you working it” does not mean that you are off the hook.Take responsibility for your things. 16.If you choose not to work, that is your choice; however, you will not get credit for work you do not do.Throwing a fit will not help. 17.Even if you complete all of the assignments, you are not guaranteed an “A”.“A’s” mean that you have mastered the task, not just completed it.You can complete all the assignments without doing them well, or without following directions, both of which will cause you to loose points. 18.Your friends are not invited to this class. If they come in to visit, they will be asked to leave promptly.Multiple infractions will cause them to be referred to the office. 19.Most of the works we do will be from life.If you need to find an image, do so on your own time.
